CLAREMONT, Calif. - Emme McMullen and Taylor Daetz each had hat tricks and ten different players scored goals as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's lacrosse team earned a 19-8 win over Whittier on Saturday evening at Zinda Field.
With the win the Athenas improve to 7-3 on the season, and 5-1 in SCIAC, with all three losses coming to nationally ranked teams. Whittier slips to 5-7 overall and 3-5 in the SCIAC with the loss.
Whittier was within 2-1 early, but the Athenas rattled off eight goals in a row to take a 10-1 lead, with seven different players scoring during the run (including two from Amelia Ulmer). Bella Lynch started the run with 6:40 left in the first and then fed McMullen 1:19 later to make it 4-1. Ulmer scored her first at the 4:26 mark, then assisted Grace Minturn with 1:35 left.
Just 22 seconds after Minturn scored, Emma Merk found the net for her second goal, and 18 seconds after that one, Daetz buried an unassisted goal to make the score 8-1 leading into the second quarter. Ulmer scored again to make it 9-1, and Sheridan Dorsey capped off the 8-0 run with 11:54 left in the second to make it 10-1.
