CMS Women's Lacrosse Concludes Regular Season with 22-7 Senior Day Win

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's lacrosse team honored its six seniors before the game and went on to capture a 22-7 win over Whittier on Saturday afternoon in its regular season finale at Zinda Field.
With the win, CMS ends the regular season at 12-4 overall and 10-2 in the SCIAC, and will advance to the conference tournament this week as the No. 2 seed. The Athenas will open play on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. against Chapman in the semifinals.
The Class of 2022 was honored prior to the contest, including Olivia Carey, Alex Futterman, Emma Goldfield, Tessa Guerra, Maisy Mills and Alex Wilson. Futterman (four goals, two assists), Carey (three goals, three assists) and Guerra (three goals, one assist) each went on to have hat tricks for CMS, while Wilson caused three turnovers and Mills had a caused turnover and two ground balls.
The Athenas scored 12 goals in the first quarter as they left no drama in their Senior Day result. Futterman won two draw controls and scored two goals in the game's first 33 seconds. Rachel Leonardi and Emma Merk scored to make it 4-1, and Taylor Daetz had two straight goals to push the lead to 6-1. Futterman scored a free position shot to finish a hat trick with 9:19 still left in the first quarter.
Carey then followed with her first, Guerra scored back-to-back goals, and Natalie Teare and Catherine Murphy capped off the first quarter with goals to make it 12-1 heading into the second. The Athenas stretched the lead to 17-2 at the half behind two second-quarter goals from Carey, as well as the third from Guerra, the second from Teare and the first from Abby Parrish.
Audrey Hope Donahue scored in the third quarter, along with Murphy, while Parrish scored her second in the fourth quarter and Annie Cave capped the scoring with one second left.
CMS will take on Chapman for the third time this season in the SCIAC Semifinals, with the most recent meeting a tight 14-11 win for the Athenas behind seven goals from Futterman.
