CMS Women's Lacrosse Shuts Out Cal Lutheran 22-0 for Fourth Straight Win

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Catherine Murphy and Olivia Carey each had four goals and Kendall Chapko and Holly Shankle had a combined three saves without allowing a goal as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's lacrosse team shut out Cal Lutheran 22-0 on Wednesday evening at Zinda Field.

The win was the fourth in a row for the Athenas, the last three of which have come with exactly 22 goals, as they improve to 4-1 on the year. Cal Lutheran slips to 0-4 with the loss.

CMS held a 38-4 edge in shots as the Athena defense did not allow many Cal Lutheran opportunities. Chapko started and had two saves in the first half from close range, while Shankle had a big stop early in the second half to keep the Regals off the scoreboard. The defense in front of the two goalies was impressive all day, with McKenna Likins contributing five caused turnovers and four ground balls.

Offensively, CMS scored seven goals in the first eight minutes as they ran away with the game in the early going. Rachel Leonardi had two of the first three goals, around a Murphy goal, and Carey had two of the next three, around an Alex Futterman goal to make it 6-0 at the 7:38 mark.

In the second quarter, Annie Cave scored her first of the day, and Emme McMullen scored two straight off of passes from Natalie Teare. In the third quarter, Alicia Lamkin scored twice and Chloe Kein added one, while Abby Parrish scored three times in the fourth quarter.

Futterman added two goals, two assists and five draw controls on the day, while Macie Gruver had two assists, four draw controls and three ground balls.

CMS will be back in action on Monday night when it takes on Illinois Wesleyan in its first non-conference game of the year at Zinda Field.
