Sally Abel Earns SCIAC Offensive Player of the Week Award for CMS Women's Lacrosse

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Junior Sally Abel captured the SCIAC Women's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week for Claremont-Mudd-Scripps for games through Sunday, Feb. 23, the league office announced today.

Abel had a team-high five points in a 16-3 win over Chapman on Saturday, which helped the Athenas open the season on a high note. She had four goals (outscoring the Panthers by herself) and added an assist on the day. In the first half, she had one goal and one assist as CMS led just 3-1, and she then scored three times in a span of less than three minutes to help CMS break the game open in the second half.

Her first goal of the second half also gave her 100 in her career, hitting that milestone already in only the first game of her junior season. She is on pace to become just the fourth 200-goal scorer in program history, a milestone that teammate Corie Hack earned last spring.

Abel also earned the SCIAC Offensive Player of the Week last week after opening day, when she had five goals and two assists on opening day against Whittier, followed by four goals and an assist in a win over Redlands. She has also been a first-team All-SCIAC selection in the league's year-end awards in both of her first two campaigns.

CMS will be back in action on Wednesday night when it crosses Sixth Street to take on Pomona-Pitzer on the road for a 7 p.m. contest.
