Corie Hack, Kira Weiss Named to IWLCA Academic Honor Roll

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Senior Corie Hack and junior Kira Weiss earned spots on the Zag Sports Academic Honor Roll for the 2018-19 academic year, the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association announced today.

The IWLCA Academic Honor Roll is eligible for juniors and seniors who carry at least a 3.5 cumulative grade point average. Hack, who graduated from Claremont McKenna this spring with a degree in science management, was also a Google Cloud Academic All-District selection, while Weiss, who is entering her senior year as a computer science major at Claremont McKenna, joined Hack on the SCIAC All-Academic team earlier this summer. 

As a team, CMS also was named as one of 312 IWLCA Zag Sports Academic Honor Squads for carrying a 3.0 team GPA or better during the 2018-19 academic year. 

On the field, Hack was a Third-Team IWLCA All-America selection and the SCIAC Offensive Player of the Year for the second year in a row. She finished the season with 72 goals and 14 assists for 86 points and became only the third player in CMS history to score 200 career goals, finishing in second place with 213. She reached the 200-goal milestone with six on her Senior Day in a win over Pomona-Pitzer. 

Weiss, meanwhile, has been an All-SCIAC defender in each of her first three seasons, picking up first-team honors in 2018 and second-team honors this year despite missing three midseason games with an injury. She caused 40 turnovers and had 55 ground balls during the 2019 season, including four caused turnovers and six ground balls in the NCAA Tournament against Amherst. She already ranks third in CMS history in career caused turnovers with 100 and fourth in ground balls with 135 with one full season left to play. 

Hack and Weiss have helped the Athenas to three straight SCIAC Championships and NCAA Tournament berths in the last three years. CMS has compiled a 36-0 record against SCIAC competition in the last three seasons, including 30-0 in the regular season and 6-0 in the conference tournament on its way to three straight league crowns. Weiss and the Class of 2020 will try to cap off their careers this spring without ever losing a conference game.
