Hack, Ryan, Abel Earn First-Team IWLCA All-West Region Honors, Hill Named to Second Team

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Women's Lacrosse team had four players selected to the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association All-West Region team in a vote of the region's coaches, the organization announced today.

Senior Corie Hack and sophomore Sally Abel were named first-team All-West Region at attack, while junior Zoe Ryan was a first-team selection at defense. Junior Allie Hill earned a spot on the All-West Region second team. Hack, Abel and Ryan are now eligible for All-America honors from the IWLCA, which will be announced later this month.

Hack was a first-team IWLCA All-Region selection for the second year in a row after leading the Athenas in scoring with 72 goals and 14 assists for 86 points. She scored at least one goal in every game this season, as well as at least one in 66 straight games over her career, dating back to the only game she was ever held scoreless, her sixth career contest as a freshman against Montclair State. She was named the SCIAC Offensive Player of the Year for the second season in a row and became only the second player in school history to score 200 goals in a career, finishing with 213.

Abel put her self on pace to challenge the 200-goal plateau as well, with 51 goals this season, giving her 98 through her first two campaigns. She also had at least one goal in every game this spring, including 10 hat tricks with three goals or more, with a season high of five against both Whittier and Chapman. She was a second-team IWLCA selection a year ago, and was named to the All-SCIAC first team for the second straight season this spring.

Ryan was named the SCIAC Defensive Player of the Year after playing a big role in helping CMS hold its opponents to just 6.74 goals per game this season. She finished the season with 31 caused turnovers and 31 ground balls and helped CMS hold almost a 2:1 ratio over its opponents in shots on target over the course of the year (517 to 274). The Athena defense was especially tough in the postseason, allowing only nine goals in two SCIAC Tournament games, including none in the second half of the finals against Pomona-Pitzer.

Hill earns second-team IWLCA All-West Region honors for the second straight season after leading the Athenas in assists this spring with 34 (nobody else on the team reached 20). Hill also crossed the 100-point plateau in the season opener against Whittier and now has 142 through her first three seasons, including 80 assists.

CMS finished the 2019 season with a 16-3 record, including a perfect 10-0 mark in the SCIAC. The Athenas also extended their win streak against SCIAC opponents to 36 in a row, including three straight undefeated 10-0 regular season and three straight 2-0 records in the SCIAC Tournament. Hack is part of a five-member senior class which graduates, but Abel, Ryan and Hill will be among the returning players who will try to keep the success going in conference play.
