CLAREMONT, Calif. - The top-seeded Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's lacrosse team will take on Chapman this evening at Zinda Field (7 p.m.) in one of two SCIAC semifinals as the Athenas try to finish their third straight unblemished season in league play.

CMS comes into the postseason with a winning streak of 34 straight against SCIAC opponents, including three straight 10-0 regular seasons and two straight conference championships. The last loss that the Athenas have suffered against a SCIAC team came against Chapman in the 2016 SCIAC semifinals, but CMS has been able to win its last four tournament games by almost identical scores (17-6 and 18-9 in 2017, 17-6 and 17-5 in 2018) to earn the last two league titles and automatic bids to the NCAA Tournament.

This year's head-to-head match-ups with Chapman have seen CMS win the first meeting 16-3 at home back on March 13, and then outlast the Panthers 20-12 in the rematch in Orange on April 13. Senior attack Corie Hack had five goals in the first meeting, while junior attack Sally Abel scored five times in the second meeting.

Hack and Abel were two of six Athenas who were named first-team All-SCIAC when the league's awards were announced yesterday. Hack was named the Offensive Player of the Year, while junior defender Zoe Ryan was named the Defensive Player of the Year and was also on the first team as well. In addition, junior midfielder Allie Hill, freshman midfielder Alex Futterman and freshman goalie Emma Goldfield were first-team selections, while junior defender Kira Weiss and freshman midfielder Sammie Cohen were on the second team.

Hack enters the postseason tied for second all-time in CMS history with 203 goals, matching Sarah Dick and 48 behind the school record held by Madi Shove. She reached the 200 milestone in the regular season finale against Pomona-Pitzer, when she scored six goals for her second straight game to earn SCIAC Offensive Player of the Week honors.

Three other Athenas are also over 100 points in their careers, with Hill standing at 138 points (62 goals, 76 assists), including a team-high 30 assists this year, Abel closing in on the 100-goal mark with 91 goals and 15 assists for 106 career points, and junior Emily Cohen standing at 104 points (77-27) after an injury as a sophomore slowed down her pace after a 49-goal freshman season.

If CMS wins the semifinal tonight, it will host the championship game on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Zinda Field against the winner of the other semifinal between Occidental and Pomona-Pitzer.
