The CMS-ence of Corie Hack

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Senior Corie Hack has been a standout on the CMS women's lacrosse team, which has won 29 straight games against SCIAC opponents over the last three years, including back-to-back league championships, resulting in two straight NCAA Division III Tournament berths. 

Hack enters the upcoming Spring Break trip to New Jersey, not far from her hometown of Manorville, N.Y. (on Long Island) with 198 career points, two shy of becoming only the fifth player in program history to reach the 200-point milestone. She has also scored 169 goals, putting her on pace to reach 200 in that category as well, which only Sarah Dick (203) and Madi Shove (251) have accomplished at CMS. 

As a freshman, her Athena team lost to Chapman in the SCIAC semifinals, but the program has not lost a game to a SCIAC opponent since, improving to 29 in a row with a 16-3 win over Chapman this week. She says it isn't difficult to pinpoint the secret of the program's success. 

"I think we've had a really strong program, especially over the last five years or so, because we have a really great coach (Lauren Uhr), and it starts with her," Hack said. "She recruits a lot of great players, and as they become older they become leaders on the team, and just that process of having great recruits become great leaders has really made us successful."

When not playing for the Athenas, Hack is a science management major at Claremont McKenna, and her senior thesis project has allowed her to serve as a scientific consultant with BioMarin, a biotech company in the San Francisco area.

Outside of her academic and athletic pursuits, Hack serves as the mentoring director for 1Gen, a first-generation student club at Claremont McKenna. She and teammate Kira Weiss have also traveled to Uganda with FUNDaFIELD to help organize that country's first-ever lacrosse tournament, while also touring many of Uganda's schools and refugee camps. 

"It was one of the more rewarding things I've done in my life," said Hack of her first trip outside the continental United States.
