IWLCA Honors Murphy as Second Team All-American
GRAND LAKE, Colo. - The Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) announced today their All-America teams for the 2018 season. Evan Murphy (CMC) earned her first All-America accolade with a Second Team nod capping off a stellar senior season in Claremont.
Murphy's All-American honor comes on the heels of a First Team All-Region, First Team All-SCIAC, and SCIAC Defender of the Year selections. The do-it-all midfielder led the Athenas with 81 points. She completed a 40-40 season in 2018, tallying 41 goals and adding 40 assists. In addition to her offensive production, the senior captain finished the season 12th in the country with 3.65 caused turnovers per game (73 total) and 31st with 4.45 ground balls per contest (89 total). She also earned 64 draw controls on the year.
Murphy started all 20 games for the Athenas this season and a few of those contests were pretty memorable. Against Springfield on Mar. 14, Murphy was held scoreless, but notched seven assists in the Athenas' 12-8 victory. It was the most assists in a game for an Athena in over a decade.
She collected at least one point in all 20 games, including a five-goal game against Occidental on Feb. 21. Murphy collected multi-goal games 12 times this season, scoring hat tricks in seven games.
