CMS Women's Golf Finishes Second at Westbrook Invitational

PEORIA, Ariz. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's golf team shot even par in Saturday's first round to build a narrow lead and then went on to finish second on Sunday at the Westbrook Invitational at the Lakes, hosted by George Fox.

The Athenas ended up shooting 582 over the two rounds, finishing two shots behind Redlands for the team title and two shots ahead of Emory and three ahead of George Fox and Trinity (Texas) in a tight leaderboard. 

Jessie Kong shot a -3 in the first round on Saturday, closing out with a birdie on her final hole (No. 4) after two straight birdies on No. 17 and No. 18. Christine Yu shot a 73 on Saturday, getting off to a strong start with birdies on two of her first three holes and then closing out with a birdie on her 17th hole (No. 2). 

Esther Lee shot a -1 on Saturday and came out on fire on Sunday with an eagle on the first hole, which was followed by a birdie on No. 3 to surge up into a tie for the lead. 

Irene Jun, playing as an individual, was -2 on Saturday, with birdies on No. 16 and No. 18 and then eight straight pars to close after starting on the ninth.

Jun finished in second place after an even-par second round, one shot away from individual medalist honors. Kong finished tied for eighth at +1 and Yu and Lee were tied for 11th at +3. 

CMS will be off for the next three weeks before competing at the UC Santa Cruz Invitational on March 30-31, before closing out the regular season on April 6 and 7 at SCIAC No. 2 at Mountain Meadows in Pomona.
