Athenas Golf Closes Fall Season with 20-Stroke Win over La Verne

CHINO HILLS, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's golf team concluded the fall portion of its schedule with a 20-stroke win over La Verne, defeating the Leopards 304-324 on Friday at Los Serranos Golf Club.

Stella Cheng led all golfers with a 72 for the Athenas, while Reina Tain, who was playing as an individual, was second with a 743. Irene Jun close behind in third place with a 74, giving CMS the top three individuals in the field.

Jordyn Janert of La Verne was fourth with a 76, but Esther Lee (78) and Jessie Kong (80) finished off the team win as the third and fourth scorers for CMS.

The Athenas, who finished third in the NCAA Division III Championships last year, conclude the fall season with a second-place finish at the California State Intercollegiate, and a first-place finish at the Chapman Quad. Cheng, Lee and Tain all tied for the low round in CMS history with a 67 at the California State Intercollegiate, with Cheng and Lee accomplishing it for the second time.

CMS will next build towards another potential national title run in the spring, as Jeissy Lee will return after studying abroad in the fall to solidify a lineup that has all five of its NCAA competitors from a year ago back this season.
