CMS Women's Golf Takes Team Title at Westbrook Invite

PEORIA, Ariz. - First-years Esther Lee and Ella Chiu each shot even-par 71 on the second day as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's golf team won the team title by just two shots over host George Fox at the Westbrook Invite at the Lakes on Sunday.

CMS came into the second round on Sunday three shots down, but managed to shoot a 291 to edge out George Fox by two, Redlands by five and Illinois Wesleyan by six in a tight battle among some of the top teams in Division III, 

Chiu's 71 included an eagle on the par-5 fourth, when she holed out on her approach from 85 yards. Lee, meanwhile, had a big birdie on the 18th hole to help seal the win, as she had 14 pars and three birdies on her 18 holes. 

Lee finished in a tie for second place over the weekend with a 144 (+2), while Chiu moved up 12 spots into a tie for eighth with her 71. Irene Jun ended up in fifth place at +4 after shooting an opening-round 69, while Stella Cheng also earned a top-20 finish in 16th place with a +9. 

Jeissy Lee also came through with a big round for the Athenas on Sunday, shooting a 73, which included a birdie at the turn on the ninth, and then eight pars on the back nine. 

CMS will be back in action when it travels to Georgia to participate in the Jekyll Island Invitational this weekend.
