CMS Women's Golf Finishes Third at Season-Opening Tournament

VENTURA, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's golf team ended in third place at the season-opening California State Intercollegiate Tournament, which was held at the Olivas Links Course.

CMS shot a 590 over the two-day event, including a final-round 299 on Tuesday. Redlands finished the tournament at -12 to win it with a 564, while Pomona-Pitzer was second. 

First-year Esther Lee had the low round for the day for the Athenas, shooting her second straight 73 for to earn a top-10 finish (ninth) in her first collegiate tournament. Lee picked up a birdie on her round with a 35-foot putt. Irene Jun joined Lee in a tie for ninth with a two-day 146, while Stella Cheng was one shot behind in a tie for 12th with a 147. 

Kendall Nicholson of Redlands won the individual title with a 137, holding on by one shot after an opening-round 64 on Monday. Katelyn Vo of Pomona-Pitzer shot a 69 for the second day in a row to finish one shot back, and Hannah Jugar of Redlands was third with a -5. 

CMS will be back in action on Friday for a dual with Biola, before hosting the Claremont Challenge on Sept. 24-25 at San Dimas Country Club.
