The Athenas will head to Houston as the NCAA's No. 13 seed

CMS Women's Golf Earns Bid to NCAA Division III Championships

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's golf team earned a bid to the 2022 NCAA Division III Championships, the selection committee announced on Monday afternoon.

The Athenas will be seeded 13th in the field and are one of three SCIAC teams to earn invitations. Pomona-Pitzer earned the automatic bid as the SCIAC Champion, while Redlands also earned an at-large bid.

CMS was in danger of not receiving an invitation, when it did not have enough student-athletes cleared to play at the second SCIAC regular season championship (after winning the first one), leaving the Athenas ineligible for the conference's automatic bid. CMS did have a key result, though, when it tied Williams (the No. 3 seed) at the Redlands Bulldog Invitational, which gave its resume some clout.

The last time CMS and Williams played to a tie was in the 2018 NCAA Championships, when the Athenas won on the second playoff hole to earn the first national championship in program history. The Athenas followed that up with a fourth-place finish in the 2019 NCAA Championships, before not competing in 2020 or 2021 due to the pandemic.

The 2022 NCAA Championships will be held May 10-13 at the Bay Oaks Country Club in Houston, Texas, with Mary Hardin-Baylor and the Harris County Houston Sports Authority serving as hosts.
