Stella Cheng Earns SCIAC Women's Golfer of the Week Award

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Stella Cheng captured the SCIAC Women's Golf Athlete of the Week honor for events through Sunday, March 27, the conference office announced this afternoon.

Cheng was the individual medalist as the only player in the red at the Redlands Bulldog Classic over the weekend. She finished the two-round tournament at -1 after birdieing the 18th hole, which gave her a one-shot win over two players tied for second at even-par, including teammate Jeissy Lee. 

The birdie on 18 also helped CMS tie for the team title with Williams after coming from seven shots down on Sunday. The Athenas trailed by two heading into the final hole of the shotgun start, and Cheng and Lee both birdied to enable CMS to pull even. 

Cheng becomes the second Athena to earn the SCIAC Women's Golf Athlete of the Week honor this season, joining Grace Lu, who earned it two weeks ago on March 14. 

CMS will be back in action in two weeks when it participates in the second SCIAC regular season championship at Industry Hills Golf Course.
