CMS Women's Golf in Second Place After First Day of Bulldog Classic

GolfStat Scoring

RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's golf team stands in second place, seven shots behind Williams, after the first day of the Bulldog Classic hosted by Redlands on Saturday afternoon at The S Course.

Williams finished the first round at +5 with a 293, while CMS stands in second at an even 300, seven shots back. The two teams battled in sudden death for the 2018 national championship four years ago, which the Athenas won for the first national title in program history.

Redlands is in third place at +15, just three shots behind CMS, while Centre College places fourth and Chapman is in fifth.

Stella Cheng is tied for the lead after coming in with a 71, one of two players to shoot in the red, along with Joanna Kim of Williams, who also is at -1. Cheng opened with a birdie on her first hole (the 8th), had back-to-back birdies on 17 and 18, and hit her low mark at -3 after a birdie on the fourth, before settling for a -1.

Jeissy Lee is tied for fifth for the Athenas at +2 after an opening-round 74, while Grace Lu is in a tie for ninth at +3.

The second and final round will get underway tomorrow, as the Athenas will try to close the gap on Williams and create another exciting finish between the two rivals.
