Grace Lu Earns First-Team All-America Honors, Emily Attiyeh Named to Third Team
CLAREMONT, Calif. - First-year Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's golfer Grace Lu was named to the Women's Golf Coaches Association All-America first team, while junior Emily Attiyeh earned a spot on the third team, the organization announced today.
Lu had a strong start to her first collegiate season, which included a tie for fourth (with Attiyeh) at the Redlands Invitational in her first collegiate event with a 74-72-146. She followed that up with an even-par 72 to come in second place at a tri-match with Redlands and Chapman at the Tustin Shootout, and had the low score in a dual with Chapman to begin the spring semester. She capped off her first season with the top score for the Athenas (75-77-152) at the first SCIAC regular season tournament, placing sixth in the field.
Attiyeh was an All-SCIAC performer in each of her first two seasons, taking second-team honors as a first-year in 2017-18 and first-team honors last spring, when she shot a 69 at the second SCIAC regular season tournament. This year, she started off her season with a fourth-place showing at the Redlands Invitational, tying with Lu, including a 71 (-1) in the final round to finish with a two-day 146.
CMS ended the abbreviated spring season with a No. 8 ranking in all of Division III as the Athenas were in strong shape to make a return visit to the NCAA Division III Championships. CMS won the national title in 2018 and came in fourth place a year ago.
