CMS Women's Golf Holds Down No. 4 Spot in First GolfStat Computer Rankings

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's golf team was ranked No. 4 in the nation in Division III in the first GolfStat computer rankings of the 2019-20 season, while five members of the Athenas were ranked in the top 40 individually, the website released today.

SCIAC rival Redlands holds down the top spot in the rankings, followed by Carnegie Mellon at No. 2 and George Fox at No. 3.  Pomona-Pitzer is one spot behind CMS at No. 5, giving the SCIAC three of the top five teams in the rankings, while Williams, NYU, WashU, Methodist and Rhodes round out the top 10. Cal Lutheran (No. 13) is also ranked in the top 15 from the SCIAC. 

CMS and Redlands have faced up against each other twice in the early part of the 2019-20 season, with Redlands edging CMS over 36 holes at its host Bulldog Invitational on Sept. 21-22, and the Athenas winning by four strokes at the 18-hole Tustin Shootout on Sept. 27. CMS also competed at the Embry Riddle Invitational on Oct. 8-9, earning a second-place finish behind the tournament hosts. 

Athena first-year player Grace Lu is ranked No. 3 nationally among Division III individuals after her first three collegiate events, followed one spot later by junior Emily Attiyeh at No. 4. Senior Emma Kang made the top 20 at No. 19, while junior Mira Yoo comes in at No. 30 and first-year Noelle Song is ranked No. 36.
