RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's golf team stands in fourth place at the midway point of the two-day Bulldog Classic, hosted by the University of Redlands at the S at Rancho Mirage, six shots behind leader Methodist University.

CMS enters tomorrow's second and final round in a five-team battle for the title (out of 12 in the tournament), with Methodist leading at +11, one shot ahead of Redlands in second at +12. Pomona-Pitzer (+16) and CMS (+17) are right next to each other in third and fourth, with Chapman in the mix as well at +20.

Senior Kelly Ransom and freshman Tiffany Hu tied for the top individual finisher for the Athenas, both in a big group at +3 and in seventh place. Kendra Nicholson of Redlands (-2) and Emily Lewis of Chapman (-1) are in first and second place as the only competitors in the field to come in under par.

Emma Kang (+5) and Emily Attiyeh (+6) also scored for the Athenas and enter tomorrow in the top 20 on the individual leaderboard in a 65-player field. Kang stands in a tie for 15th place, while Attiyeh is in a tie for 18th place.

Day two gets underway tomorrow morning, as CMS will try to win its fourth straight event to start the spring season. The Athenas won a dual with Redlands to start the spring, then captured both the SCIAC #1 regular season championship and the George Fox Invitational championship.
