CMS Women's Golf Two Shots Back After Opening Round of Redlands Dual

CHINO HILLS, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's golf team is two shots behind at the midway point of its two-day dual match with Redlands to kick off its spring season, carding a 315 on the opening day at Los Serranos North, compared to a 313 for Redlands.

The top two finishers for the Athenas after the opening round were Amy Xue and Camille Simon, although Simon is competing as an individual and does not count towards the team score. Annie Hay of Redlands shot a 74 (+2) to lead all competitors, with Xue and Simon tied with Kendall Nicholson for second, one shot behind.

Tiffany Hu shot a 79 for the Athenas to tie Keilee Bessho of Redlands for third, with Mira Yoo one shot behind with an 80 (tying Taylor Hughes, who is also competing as an individual). Emily Attiyeh rounded out the four scorers for CMS with an 81.

Xue started out one-under through the first five holes after birdieing No. 4, before eventually making the turn at 37 (+1). She followed up with five straight pars on the back nine, and ended up with a solid round of +3.

Simon opened up her round with a bogey but settled in quickly getting that stroke back with a birdie on the par-4 fifth hole. She also took the turn at +1, and after bogeys on No. 10 and No. 11, she responded with a big birdie on No. 12 to get her momentum back and finish with a 75.

The second day of the Redlands dual will take place tomorrow morning (weather permitting), with the first group opening at 10:20 a.m.
