Women's Golf Stands in Fourth Place after First Day of Embry-Riddle Invitational

PRESCOTT, Ariz. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's golf team stands in fourth place after the first two rounds of the Embry-Riddle Co-Ed Invitational on Monday, standing six shots behind Whittier after making up 13 shots on the second round of the day at the Antelope Hills North Course in Prescott.

CMS struggled in the frigid morning conditions and was in fifth place with a +38 team score (326) after the first 18 holes, but bounced back to shoot nine shots better in the afternoon and move into fourth. Biola stands in first place with a 607 after shooting +13 on the second round, while host Embry-Riddle is in second with a 613. Whittier stands at 637 after shooting 307 for its first round but slumping to a 330 in round two, with the Athenas at 643, followed by Ottawa (662) and Arizona Christian (667) in the final two spots. 

Three Athenas are tied for the team lead with a 161, tying them for 12th overall on the individual leaderboard. Freshman Tiffany Hu used a 78 in the second round to move up nine spots, while sophomore Camille Simon jumped seven spots with a 79. Junior Eunice Song had the top opening round for CMS with a 79, while junior Taylor Hughes tied for the top second round on the team with a 78.

Jessica Williams of Embry-Riddle leads the individual field with an even-par 144 after shooting a 70 for the second round. Tori Roeske and Alexis Gopfert of Biola are second and third with a +3 and +5, respectively. 

The final round of the Embry-Riddle Invitational will take place tomorrow morning.
