Athenas, Raskin Cruise To Victory At SCIAC Golf Championships

BEAUMONT, Calif. – With four finishers in the top-5, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's golf team cruised to its second-straight title at the SCIAC Women's Golf Championships April 27-29 at Oak Valley Golf Course. As the SCIAC Champions, next up for the Athenas are the NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championships which are May 14-17 at Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort in Destin, Fla.

CMS shot a team score of 941, 48 shots better than second place Redlands. The Athenas best round of the Championships came on the first day with a score of 307.

Sophomore Shaina Raskin won the tournament and led the Athenas with a three-day score of 229, 13-over par at the par-72 golf course. Raskin led from start to finish with the low round in the field on the first day as she finished four strokes ahead of sophomore teammate Tiffany Su who finished at plus-17.

A score of 240 placed junior Maya Reddy in fourth place while sophomore Marissa Suehiro tied for fifth with a score of 241. Reddy improved with each round shooting an 81 in the first round, an 80 in the second and a 79 in the final round. Tiffany Gu from Pomona-Pitzer finished in third place with a score of 235 while Hannah Durette from Redlands and Kristin Oberiano from Occidental tied with Suehiro for fifth place.

Freshman Melody Sue (245) and junior Elizabeth Diebel (257) finished tied for 11th and in 17th, respectively for CMS.
