CLAREMONT, Calif. - Stevie Steinberg, Kyril Van Schendel and Miles Christensen finished in third through fifth place positions, and the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's cross country team earned a team qualification to nationals for the 12th year in a row with a second-place finish at the NCAA West Regionals, which were held on Saturday morning at Pomona-Pitzer.

CMS ran without senior Thomas D'Anieri, who won the SCIAC Championships on Nov. 2, in order to have him at full strength for the NCAA Division III Championships next week, but the Stags still had plenty of depth to easily finish in second place. Pomona-Pitzer finished in first place with 33 points, with CMS in second with 43, and UC Santa Cruz well behind with 102 points in third. 

Steinberg led a pack of three straight Stags to cross in the 3-5 spots, finishing in 25:16.80. Van Schendel was right behind him exactly one second later to come in fourth place, and Christensen came in fifth in a time of 25:23.40. 

Junior Will Kimball was the fourth Stag to cross in 12th place, clocking a time of 25:47.50. First-year Daniel Krasemann capped off the five scorers for CMS in 22nd place in 26;16.60, and senior Wilson Ives was right behind him in 23rd place to earn All-Region honors.

First-year Henry Pick capped off the seven-runner contingent for the Stags in 28th, meaning that all seven of the CMS runners were above the cutoff for All-West Region distinction. 

CMS heads to Louisville, Kentucky next week for the NCAA Division III Championships, expecting to have D'Anieri back in the line-up as the Stags will try to contend for the national title.
