Bertini's 200-400 Sweep Leads CMS Men's Track and Field at Westmont Classic

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Massimo Bertini won both the 200 meters and the 400 meters, and the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's track and field team won six events in all at the Westmont Classic on Saturday. 

Bertini ran a 48.24 in the 400 meters to set a new PR, which is also the fastest time run by anyone in Division III during outdoor season so far, while Kai Dettman placed second for the Stags in 49.26. CMS finished 1-2-3 in the 200 meters, with Bertini taking first in 21.94, followed by Timi Balogun in 22.48 and Quincey Williams in 22.67. 

Balogun and Williams were also part of a winning 4x100 relay team that finished in 42.13 seconds, along with Nick Teresi and Christian Campbell. The 4x400 relay also won its race in 3:15.68, with Bertini, Dettman, Teresi and Campbell winning by a comfortable eight-second margin over host Westmont. 

Colin Scanlon took first in the 400 meter hurdles in 57.64 seconds, while Joshua Martinez was second in the 110 meter hurdles in 15.93 seconds. 

In the throws, Jason Bowman took first in the shot put with a throw of 14.57 meters, while Sarath Kakani was second with a throw of 13.94 meters. Tyson-Jay Saena was second in the hammer throw at 43.87 meters. 

CMS will be back in action on Saturday when it hosts a SCIAC Multi-Dual, beginning at 10 a.m. at the Burns Track Complex
