Advik Mareedu Captures ITA West Region Rookie of the Year Honors

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Advik Mareedu of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's tennis team earned the ITA West Region Rookie of the Year Award, the organization announced this week.

By earning the West Region honor, Mareedu is now in the running for the National Rookie of the Year Award, which will be announced on Monday.

Mareedu won both the SCIAC Athlete of the Year and the SCIAC Newcomer of the Year honor after a dominant rookie season which saw him win 30 singles matches. Included in that total was a 9-0 start to his career in the fall, as he won the ITA West Region title and the ITA Cup national title, becoming the first Stag to win the ITA Cup singles championship since 2006.

Mareedu finished the year with a 30-6 final singles record, including 20-5 in dual matches, all while playing at No. 1. He was also 18-12 in doubles, 13-2 while playing at No. 3 with former high school teammate Warren Pham. He becomes the first Stag to win the ITA West Region Rookie of the Year since Nikolai Parodi captured it in 2017.

The Stags reached the NCAA Division III national semifinals, before ending with a tight 5-4 loss to Tufts, as Mareedu won in both singles and doubles. After the team championship concluded, he went on to advance to the Round of 16 in the NCAA singles championship.
