Mareedu, Robinson/Settles Win ITA Regional Singles, Doubles Titles for CMS Men's Tennis

CLAREMONT, Calif. - First-year Advik Mareedu won the ITA West Singles title without dropping a set, and Matthew Robinson and Christian Settles captured the doubles title, as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's tennis team swept the regional championships on Sunday afternoon at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center.

Mareedu earns All-America honors for his championship, which will be announced after the spring season concludes. He becomes the first Stag from Harvey Mudd to win the singles title since Michael Starr in 2006.

Mareedu had his closest battle of the tournament against Caleb Wilkins of Chapman, winning 6-3, 6-4, with the second set the first one he had that was closer than 6-3 in his five matches of the regionals, as he ended up outscoring his opponents by an aggregate score of 60-21. Mareedu was down 4-3 (on serve) and needed to win a deuce point to hold (ITA Tournament plays by no advantage rules). He broke Wilkins for a 5-4 lead, and then after getting to match point, he blistered a winner down the line for a memorable win.

Settles and Robinson also capture All-America honors after earning a 6-3, 6-3 win for the doubles title over Matthew Feng and Eshaan Lumba of Pomona-Pitzer, with Settles putting away a volley for match point. Settles now has All-America honors for two different institutions, after winning it in doubles last year playing for Trinity University in Texas, before enrolling at Claremont Graduate University and joining the Stags this season.

The three Stags will next head to the ITA Cup in Rome, Georgia from Oct. 13-16, where 16 singles players and 16 doubles teams will vie for a fall national title.
