Liu Ranked No. 5, Martin/Arimilli No. 3 in first ITA Division III Rankings
CLAREMONT, Calif. - Senior Robert Liu is ranked No. 5 in the nation in Division III singles by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association in the first national rankings of the 2021-22 season, while the doubles team of Philip Martin and Nathan Arimilli is ranked No. 3, the organization announced today.
Liu earned All-America honors in the fall by winning the ITA West Regional championship, defeating teammate Ethan Carroll in the finals. Carroll holds down the No. 14 singles ranking from the ITA, while Martin (No. 27), Matthew Robinson (No. 28), Jack Katzman (No. 43) and Ian Freer (No. 50) are all ranked as well, giving the Stags a full lineup of six singles players in the top 50.
Arimilli and Martin reached the national doubles finals of the ITA Cup in the fall, before eventually dropping a three-setter to the current No. 1 ranked team from Williams (the No. 2 team from Trinity includes Christian Settles, the son of CMS head coach Paul Settles). Katzman and Liu are also ranked No. 22 in the ITA doubles rankings.
The Stags will open their spring schedule on Friday, Jan. 21 when they test themselves with a road match against Division I USC. Their first Division III match will be on Feb. 18 against UC Santa Cruz, before traveling to the ITA Indoor Nationals from Feb. 25-27.
