Robert Liu Named SCIAC Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Sophomore Robert Liu, who was undefeated in helping the CMS men's tennis team to the championship of the Stag-Hen Invitational, was named the SCIAC Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week, the league office announced today.

Liu was 5-0 over the three matches for the Stags, picking up two wins in singles and three in doubles. Impressively, he dropped a total of only four games in four singles sets, winning 6-0, 6-3 in the quarterfinals against No. 26 Skidmore and then dominating in the championship match against No. 3 Bowdoin, winning 6-0, 6-1. 

He and sophomore Jack Katzman, who has earned the SCIAC Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week Award twice this spring as well, were also dominant in doubles, winning 8-2, 8-3 and 8-2 against Skidmore, Sewanee and Bowdoin, respectively. Combining singles and doubles, Liu had aggregate scores of 48-11 to help the No. 6 Stags to a perfect weekend. 

CMS will be back in action for four matches on the East Coast over Spring Break, beginning tomorrow at MIT. The Stags will also take on Wesleyan and Coast Guard on Wednesday and close out the trip with a big matchup with Amherst on Friday.
