Gaylord, Uyeno Sweep SCIAC Diver of the Week Honors for CMS

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Cyrus Gaylord (Stags) and Meilan Uyeno (Athenas) were named the SCIAC Divers of the Week for events through Sunday, Jan. 28, the conference office announced today.

Gaylord swept both the one-meter and three-meter dives in a dual with Redlands, breaking 400 points with his six dives in the three-meter (406.65) to win by just under 22 points over teammate Jack Griffith. He also edged Griffith 309.35 to 302.85 in the one-meter to complete the sweep of both boards as CMS earned a dual win in its final regular season SCIAC meet.

Uyeno won the three-meter and finished a close second in the one-meter to teammate Alexis Romero as CMS won a dual meet with Redlands. She won the three-meter with 266.20 points, a margin of just under 10 points over Romero (256.75). She then earned 308.50 points in the one-meter, leaving her just 2.25 points shy of Romero as the two Athenas split the two boards.

It marks the third time this season that CMS has swept the two SCIAC Diver of the Week honors, with Uyeno earning a part of it all three times. The previous two were both shared with Ethan Sattley, including Jan. 16, after the last time the CMS swim and dive teams were in action. Gaylord, who studied abroad in the fall, has also won it one previous time (Jan. 8), while Alexis Romero won it once for the Athenas (Dec. 4). The program has a total of seven SCIAC Divers of the Week on the roster, as Griffith (twice) and Bennet Matazzoni earned it last year for the Stags, while Izzy Doud (twice) earned it for the Athenas.

CMS will be back in action this weekend when it travels to participate in the UC Santa Barbara Invitational, as the Stags and Athenas gear up in their last month of preparation before trying to defend their SCIAC Championships Feb. 22-25.
