Frank Applebaum Finishes 10th in 100 Fly at NCAA Championships
Greensboro, N.C. - Frank Applebaum earned 10th place in the 100-yard butterfly to earn honorable mention All-America honors at the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships on Thursday at the Greensboro Aquatics Center.
Applebaum swam a 47.54 in the consolation heat, just barely off his PR of 47.45 that he set at the NCAA Championships last year, when he came in fifth and earned All-America honors. He took a half-second off his prelim time of 48.03 to earn his way into the top 10.
Applebaum will be in action tomorrow in the 200 fly, when he will try to defend his national title. A year ago, he swam a 1:44.01 to break the NCAA Division III record, and his 100 fly time today gives some indication that he is close to the same form now, as he tries to defend his title.
Lucas Lang swam in the 200 free on Thursday after earning honorable mention All-America honors in the 500 on Wednesday, and he will now gear up for Saturday's 1650, after he came in second in that event a year ago.
