CMS Men's Swim and Dive Wins Every Event in Final SCIAC Regular Season Meet

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's swimming and diving team won all 16 events to sweep both Cal Lutheran and La Verne in its final SCIAC regular season meet on Saturday afternoon at Cal Lutheran.

With the wins, CMS finishes the SCIAC regular season 8-0 as it prepares to defend its SCIAC title in just over two weeks, from Feb. 15-18 at East Los Angeles College. 

Steven Tran once again won three events for CMS, taking the 100 breast in 58.50, 200 breast in 2:08.83, and the 400 IM in 4:11.35. Lucas Lang won both distance events with a 16:10.24 in the 1650 and a 4:49.41 in the 500. Frank Applebaum swept both butterfly events (50.14 in the 100, 1:53.03 in the 200) and was part of two relay wins as well.  

Korin Aldam-Tajima (52.70 in the 100 back) and Anderson Breazeale (1:54.58 in the 200 back) combined to sweep the backstroke. Dylan Krueger (21.36 in the 50), Henrik Barck (47.23 in the 100) and Theo Johnson (1:45.55 in the 200) won the sprint freestyle events. 

The Stags dominated from the outset with the top three times in the 200 medley relay. The "B" team actually edged out the "A" team for first place, with Grant Stucky, Tran, Applebaum and Krueger finishing in 1:34.91. They capped the meet with a 1-2 finish in the 400 free relay as Jeremy Tan, Breazeale, Johnson and Applebaum won in 3:11.41. 

CMS was equally dominant on the diving boards, finishing 1-5 in the one-meter and 1-4 in the three-meter. Cyrus Gaylord won both with a 271.05 in the one-meter, and a 307.25 in the three-meter. Ethan Sattley was second in the one-meter, followed by Ben B. Smith, Bennet Matazzoni and Jack Griffith, while Griffith, Sattley and Matazzoni were 2-4 in the three-meter. 

CMS will be back in action next weekend when it hosts the CMS Invitational on Saturday, which will also be Senior Day for the Class of 2023.
