Jack Griffith Earns SCIAC Diver of the Week Award

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Jack Griffith of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's swimming and diving team earned the SCIAC Men's Diver of the Week award for events through Sunday, Jan. 8, the league office announced today.

Griffith won both diving events in a dual meet with Whittier on Saturday, earning over 300 points in both, taking the three-meter with 309.98 points and then earning the one-meter with 325.95. In the one-meter, he prevailed in a very close battle with teammate Cyrus Gaylord, winning by less than a point (325.95 to 325.20).

Griffith earned the SCIAC Diver of the Week for the second time this season, after previously winning it following a season-opening meet at UC San Diego. Gaylord also captured the Diver of the Week on Nov. 14 after a tri-meet with Chapman and Caltech, giving the Stags three top diver honors this season, to go along with two Swimmer of the Week awards for Frank Applebaum. Griffith now has four Diver of the Week honors in his two seasons, after taking it twice last year as well.

CMS will be back in action when it competes at the UCLA Diving Invitational on Friday-Sunday, while also traveling to Redlands for a SCIAC dual meet on Saturday.
