Frank Applebaum Earns SCIAC Men's Swimmer of the Week Honors

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Junior Frank Applebaum earned the SCIAC Men's Swimmer of the Week Award for events through Sunday, Dec. 4, the league office announced today.

Applebaum won all three of his individual events and contributed to a sweep of the medley relays as CMS defeated Pomona-Pitzer in a two-day dual meet by 70 points. Applebaum won the 200 IM on Friday in 1:50.95 and then swept the butterfly events on Saturday, winning the 100 in 48.59 and the 200 in 1:47.69 - all three of which met the NCAA "B" cut standard.

In addition to his individual wins, Applebaum also won the butterfly leg of the winning 400 medley relay by 2.33 seconds in an event that CMS won by 2.08. The defending national champion in the 200 fly, in an NCAA Division III-record time of 1:44.01, Applebaum earned the SCIAC Swimmer Award for the second time this season, after also sweeping the butterfly events in a SCIAC tri-meet with Chapman and Caltech on Nov. 12.

CMS will have a month off before returning to action on Jan. 6 at the Cal Baptist Distance Meet, before hosting Whittier at Axelrood Pool for a SCIAC meet on Jan. 7.
