12 Stags Honored on CSCAA Scholar All-America Teams

CLAREMONT, Calif. - A total of 12 members of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's swimming and diving team were honored by the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) on its Scholar All-America teams, the organization announced today.

Eight Stags earned first-team Scholar All-America honors for earning a 3.5 GPA or higher and being selected to participate at nationals, while four others were second-team selections for earning a 3.5 and having a "B" cut time or performance. 

First-team selections included Frank Applebaum, Anderson Breazeale, Marco Conati, Cyrus Gaylord, Theo Johnson, Dylan Krueger, Walter Limm and Eric Workman. Earning spots on the second team were Matthew Choi, Benjamin B. Smith, Benjamin J. Smith and Alec Vercruysse

Applebaum added his Scholar All-America distinction to a national championship in the 200-yard butterfly, when he set a new NCAA Division III record with a 1:44.01. Conati was both an All-American (100 fly) and a Scholar All-American in his senior season. Breazeale (200 back) and Gaylord (three-meter dive) were honorable mention All-Americans as individuals. 

Breazeale, Limm and Conati were part of a 200-yard medley relay that earned first-team All-America honors with a second-place finish, while Limm, Applebaum and Conati were part of a 400-yard medley relay team that also came in second. The 400-yard freestyle relay team, with Breazeale, Conati and Workman, also earned first-team All-America honors with a seventh-place finish. 

CMS finished the NCAA Division III Championships in eighth place as a team, after winning its second straight SCIAC title in convincing fashion.
