Cyrus Gaylord Earns Fourth Place at NCAA Regionals in Three-Meter Dive

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Cyrus Gaylord earned fourth place out of 12 competitors in the three-meter dive at the NCAA Division III Region 2 Diving Qualifier at Trinity University on Friday.

Four divers earn bids to nationals out of Region 2, and Gaylord's performance in the three-meter will give him a chance to earn one of those bids, based on tomorrow's results in the one-meter. The top two finishers on each board are guaranteed bids, and if the two three-meter qualifiers (Lucas Bumgarner of Emory, John Beuerlein of Rhodes) are in the top two again tomorrow in the one-meter, the third and fourth-place finishers on each board will be in contention for the last two spots.

Gaylord finished with 426.80 points to end up finishing ahead of Benjamin Willett of Pomona-Pizter in fifth with 415.55. Jack Griffith was eighth with 381.20 points and Ben Smith was 11th with 328.15.

Bumgarner had a big performance with 548.75 points to run away with first, while Beuerlein was second with 468.30 points and Avery Balch came in fourth with 426.80.

The one-meter dive will take place tomorrow on the second day of the NCAA Regionals, beginning at 12 p.m. local time (10 a.m. Pacific).
