Men's Swimming and Diving Caps Perfect SCIAC Regular Season with Two Dual Wins

LA VERNE, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's swimming and diving team finished off a 7-0 SCIAC regular season with a pair of wins over La Verne and Cal Lutheran on Saturday at Las Flores Park.

CMS began the swimming events by earning the top two finishers in the 200-yard medley, with the "B" team of Dylan Krueger, Matt Choi, Frank Applebaum and Theo Johnson edging the 'A' team by a tenth of a second (1:35.75 to 1:35.85).

Krueger also took the 50 free in 21.31, added a win in the 200 back in 1:54.87, and anchored the winning 200 free relay team to give him four wins on the day. Applebaum, meanwhile, a win in the 200-yard butterfly in 1:56.07 to edge AJ Nybo of Cal Lutheran by six-tenths of a second.

Lucas Lang won both the 500 and the 1000 to continue his dominant season in the distance events, taking the 1000 in 9:33.46 to win by over five seconds and adding a win of almost three seconds in the 500 in 4:39.28. Nick Tekieli was a dual winner in the 100 back in dominant fashion, winning by almost five seconds (51.81 to 56.62), and in the 100 free in 48.20 seconds. 

Jack Griffith swept the two diving events for the Stags, breaking 300 points in the one-meter (312.30) and adding 276.15 in the three-meter. 

Nate Luis added a win in the 100 fly in 52.52, and the 200-yard freestyle relay team won a close battle over Cal Lutheran 1:27.03 to 1:27.69, with Eric Workman, Marco Conati, Anderson Breazeale and Krueger earning the winning time. 

CMS will be back in action next weekend for the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational before heading to the SCIAC Championships, with diving the first to get underway on Feb. 12-13, following by the swimming events from Feb. 16-19.
