CMS Men's Swimming and Diving Moves up to No. 9 in Latest National Poll

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's swimming and diving team moved up one spot to No. 9 in the latest poll released by the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America on Tuesday.

The Stags continued their strong 2021-22 season with a dominant win over Redlands on Saturday, remaining perfect against Division III competition, including a statement win over Pomona-Pitzer (currently No. 12) on Dec. 2-3. CMS is 5-2 in dual meets, with the only defeats coming to Division I programs, UC San Diego on opening day in October, and California Baptist on Jan. 7.

Individually, Cyrus Gaylord became the second Stag winner of the SCIAC Diver of the Week honor yesterday, joining Jack Griffith, who earned it after the UC San Diego meet. CMS has also had three SCIAC Swimmer of the Week winners, two from senior All-American Marco Conati and one from Anderson Breazeale, after he set five pool records (three individual, two relay) in the Pomona-Pitzer win.

The top eight in the poll remained the same (Emory, Denison, Johns Hopkins, Kenyon, Chicago, MIT, WashU, NYU), while CMS moved up a spot to flip-flop with Carnegie Mellon, which slipped ot 10. Caltech also still remains in the top 25 from the SCIAC at No. 24.

The CMS women's swimming and diving team also finds itself among the top teams in the nation, currently placing at No. 11. Both teams will next be in action on Jan. 29, when they travel to La Verne for a SCIAC tri-meet, along with Cal Lutheran.
