CMS Men's Swimming and Diving Moves Into Top Ten in Latest National Rankings

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's swimming and diving team moved up four spots to No. 9 in the latest TYR / CSCAA Division III Top 25 poll, which was released this morning by the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America.

The Stags moved up four spots on the heels of their two-day dual win on Dec. 6 and Dec. 7 over Pomona-Pitzer, which was ranked No. 10 in the last poll and slipped to No. 12 after falling to CMS. So far this season, CMS is undefeated against Division III competition with a 4-0 record (all against SCIAC teams) and has one loss against Division II power UC San Diego.

CMS has had three different swimmers capture the SCIAC Men's Swimmer of the Week honors so far this year, with All-American Marco Conati the latest to earn that distinction on Monday after winning all six events he was in (three individual, three relay) in Haldeman Pool record times. Earlier this season, first-year Anderson Breazeale won the honor after a pair of individual wins in a dual win over Caltech, and first-year distance swimmer Joe Zales won it after two wins in a tri-meet with Cal Lutheran and Chapman.

Senior Kendall Hollimon, another returning All-American for the program, has also been named the SCIAC Men's Diver of the Week three different times this year. He picked up the honor after the UC San Diego meet, when he was victorious in the three-meter, and after the Cal Lutheran-Chapman tri-meet and the Pomona-Pitzer dual, when he swept both the one-meter and three-meter.

The CMS Women's Swimming and Diving team, which also defeated Pomona-Pitzer, held steady at No. 11 in the latest poll, just outside the top 10. Both teams will return to action after the new year, when they travel to the Cal Baptist Distance Meet on Friday, Jan. 10 and then have a SCIAC road dual meet with La Verne on Saturday, Jan. 11.
