Zales, Hollimon Sweep SCIAC Weekly Awards for CMS Men's Swimming and Diving

CLAREMONT, Calif. - First-year distance swimmer Joe Zales and senior diver Kendall Hollimon were named the SCIAC Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively, for events through Sunday, Nov. 17, the conference office announced today.

CMS swept the awards with Hollimon winning his second Diver of the Week honor of the season and Zales earning his first SCIAC accolade of his young career. The Stags have had a combined four SCIAC honors in three weeks, as first-year Anderson Breazeale took home the Swimmer of the Week honor last week.

Hollimon won both diving events in a SCIAC tri-meet with Chapman and Cal Lutheran on Saturday, setting new pool records in the process. He finished with 435.45 points in the three-meter and 374.40 points in the one-meter to earn both first-place finishes, surpassing his own previous best marks at Axelrood Pool (372.85 and 369.00, respectively). Hollimon earned his first Diver of the Week Award of the season on Oct. 28 after taking first-place in the three-meter in a meet against Division II power UC San Diego.

Zales swept both distance events for CMS to help the Stags to the sweep of the two duals. He won easily in the 1000 meters, taking first place by well over eight seconds and then won a right race in the 500 by just over one second (4:43.70), narrowly edging junior Kyrellos Ibrahim in 4:44.83. Zales also won the 500 in a SCIAC dual meet with Caltech on Nov. 9, remaining perfect against SCIAC competition in his young career.

CMS will return to action in December when it faces Pomona-Pitzer in a two-day meet on Dec. 6-7.
