Hollimon Wins Three-Meter Title on First Day of SCIACs for Stags, Desmond Third in One-Meter for Athenas

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Junior Kendall Hollimon broke 600 points in the finals (601.90) to win the SCIAC Championship in the three-meter dive on Saturday on the first day of the SCIAC Diving Championships on Saturday afternoon at Pomona-Pitzer's Haldeman Pool.

On the women's side, senior Jacque Desmond earned her way onto the podium with a third-place finish in the one-meter with 422.90 points. It was a tight battle at the top, as the top five finishers were all between 408.35 and 443.20, but Kellyn Toole of Chapman was able to earn the narrow win.

Hollimon finished in first place in the morning prelims with a score of 591.80, edging Pomona-Pitzer's Jem Stern, who had 556.70 points. In the finals, though, Hollimon jumped out to a quick lead after the first few rounds and rolled to a win over 70 points over Stern (601.90 to 529.80).

It marked the fourth SCIAC title in Hollimon's career, after winning the one-meter as a freshman and sweeping both the one-meter and three-meter as a sophomore last year.

Senior Scott Montague and freshman Noa Schachtel also advanced past the prelims for the Stags, moving on to the finals, where they finished in eighth and ninth place, respectively.

Sophomore Emily Bhatt was one of nine divers to advance out of the field of 22 as well for the Athenas, earning an eighth place finish with a score of 375.50 in the finals.

Day two of the SCIAC Diving Championships will take place tomorrow at Haldeman Pool, with the men opening at 9:30 a.m. in the one-meter, followed by the women in the three-meter at 12:30 p.m.
