
Ma, Tan, Chiu Earn PING All-Region Honors from GCAA for Stags Golf
CLAREMONT, Calif. - Yuefeng (Michael) Ma, Jamison Tan and Adrian Chiu earned PING All-Region VII Honors from the Golf Coaches Association of America, the organization announced on Thursday.
Ma, Tan and Chiu were three of the 15 student-athletes selected from the region. CMS had three of the seven selections from the SCIAC, with Redlands, La Verne, Cal Lutheran and Pomona-Pitzer each having one.
Ma earned the SCIAC Athlete of the Year Award for the second time in his career after winning the individual title at the SCIAC Championships, shooting a -6 over three rounds to win by one stroke. He followed that up with a top-50 finish out of 221 competitors (45th) at the NCAA Championships, which included a 69 on his second round (-3).
Tan had a strong rookie season for the Stags, which was capped off by shooting a team-best 289 (+1) at the NCAA Division III Championships this week, including two rounds in the red, a 70 in the first round and a 71 in the final round. He was also the highest finisher for CMS at the Jekyll Island Invitational, coming in fifth (+2) in a field of 150 golfers.
Chiu carded a 68 (-4) in the third round of the NCAA Championships, and was also fifth in the SCIAC Championships, where he finished at even par after a 71 on his final round. He was third at the first SCIAC regular season tournament at -7, including a 67 (-5) in his second round.
CMS finished out the season with a 13th-place finish at the NCAA Championships this week, after coming in a close second at the SCIAC Championships behind Redlands.
