BOULDER CITY, Nev. - Adrian Chiu shot a 4-under 68 to help the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's golf team move up to 15th place after the third day of the NCAA Division III Championships at the Boulder Creek Golf Club.

CMS had its best day as a team, finishing with a 290 (+2) as it moved up from 17th place, following a 292 on Tuesday and a 296 on Wednesday. The Stags have some potential to move up on the last day tomorrow, as they are only seven shots away from the top 10 going into the final round.

The top three teams have separated themselves from the pack going into the final day, as Carnegie Mellon (-15), Methodist (-14) and Redlands (-14) have a five-shot gap between Kenyon in fourth (+9) and an eight-shot gap over Emory (+6) in fifth.

Chiu had three birdies in a row and four in a five-hole span on his front nine, carding them on No. 12, No. 13, No. 14 and No. 16 after starting on the 10th hole. He added one final birdie on No. 7 (his 16th hole) to finish his round at -4.

Jamison Tan had a solid round, finishing with a 73 that included 15 pars, and a birdie on the 18th (his ninth hole) when he snaked in a 20-foot putt. Joshua Kwon started his back nine with back-to-back birdies on No. 1 and No. 2 on his way to a 74, and Riley Lai carded three birdies to earn a 75.

Tan currently is the highest-placing Stag on the individual leaderboard at +2, tying him for 44th (out of 221 golfers who started), while Yuefeng (Michael) Ma and Chiu are each at +3 in a tie for 48th. Brett Viator of Huntingdon and Michael O'Sullivan of Oglethorope lead at +9, after Viator shot a 64 on Thursday (-8).

The final round will get underway tomorow morning at the Boulder Creek Golf Club as CMS will try to finish strong and earn another top-10 finish after tying for third in each of the last two seasons.
