POMONA, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's golf team finished in second place at SCIAC Regular Season Tournament No. 2, trimming eight shots off its lead in the battle for the league title, after Sunday's second round at Mountain Meadows Golf Club.

The Stags came into the weekend with an 18-shot lead after SCIAC No. 1 in February, but Pomona-Pitzer was able to finish at +6 this weekend, eight shots ahead of CMS at +14 to come a little bit closer. The Stags will take that 10-shot lead into the SCIAC Championships at the end of the month in a battle for the league title and automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championships.

Will Parker was the top individual finisher for CMS, finishing at even par for the second day in a row for a two-round score of 140. He had a stretch of three birdies in four holes around the turn, picking up strokes at the 7th, 9th and 10th.

Kevin Jiang also earned a top-10 finish by coming in seventh with a 142 (+2) after his second straight 71. Jiang's round on Sunday featured an eagle on the eighth hole, as well as three birdies. Vikram Chatterjee jumped seven spots into 14th place with a 72 on Sunday.

CMS had won its previous five SCIAC events, including all three last year and the only one that was held in 2020 before the pandemic. The Stags will try to keep the league trophy when the SCIAC Championships are held on April 23-25.
