Mason Chiu Ranked No. 1 in Division III in GolfStat Rankings; Three Stags Place in Top Ten

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Mason Chiu is ranked No. 1 in the nation in the latest GolfStat Division III individual rankings at the conclusion of the fall schedule, while teammates Yuefeng (Michael) Ma and Will Parker are also in the top 10 at fourth and sixth, respectively.

Chiu has an adjusted scoring average of 69.38 and is a perfect 17-0 this year against other golfers ranked in the GolfStat top 100. He began the year with a -7 round on his first day of competition at the California State Intercollegiate, where he ended up capturing individual medalist honors.

Chiu did not compete at the second CMS event of the fall, the Redlands Fall Invitational, but Parker and Ma led the Stags to their second team championships of the early going. Parker finished third at the Bulldog Invitational and Ma came in fifth, with both coming in under par over their 54 holes.

Vijay Jain is also national ranked for the Stags at No. 28, while Kevin Jiang (No. 35), Joshua Kwon (No. 36) and Alex Yun (No. 40) give the program seven golfers in the top 40 in the nation, according to GolfStat.

The two CMS wins also helped the Stags vault up from No. 15 in the preseason coaches poll, all the way up to No. 4 in the latest poll released on Oct. 28. CMS has now won five of the last six events it has competed in, dating back to an abbreviated 2019-20 season, which concluded with a dominant win at the first SCIAC regular season tournament before the pandemic.

CMS will be back in action in February, when it competes at The Joust at Goose Creek, hosted by California Baptist, as well as the first SCIAC regular season tournament.
