CMS Men's Golf Places Fourth in First GolfStat Computer Rankings

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's golf team was ranked No. 4 in the nation in Division III in the first GolfStat computer rankings of the 2019-20 season, while six members of the Stags were ranked in the top 25 individually, the website released today.

Illinois Wesleyan placed first in the team rankings, followed by Huntingdon College and Emory in the 2-3 spots. After CMS, Saint Thomas placed fifth, while Hampden-Sydney, Wittenberg, Methodist, Gustavus Adolphus and Wisconsin-Eau Claire were in the 6-10 spots.

The Stags earned first-place finishes in both of their fall events, capturing first place at the Redlands Invitational on sept. 21-22 and then winning the Embry Riddle Co-Ed Invitational on Oct. 7-8. CMS, which finished eighth in the NCAA Championships a year ago, accomplished the two wins despite not having its full lineup in tact, as junior Mason Chiu, the reigning SCIAC Player of the Year, did not compete in either event, while junior Ken Kong, a returning third-team All-American, did not compete at Embry Riddle.

Kong is the highest-rated individual for the Stags in the GolfStat rankings at No. 4, followed by four teammates in the top 10. Senior Harrison Brenner comes in at No. 5, followed by three first-year members of the team, Vikram Chatterjee at No. 6, fEdward Wu at No. 8, and Adrian Chiu at No. 10. Senior Austin Long also come in ranked at No. 25.
