Ken Kong, Alex Wrenn Earn PING All-West Region Honors

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Senior Alex Wrenn and sophomore Ken Kong were named to the PING All-West Region team by the Golf Coaches Association of America, it was announced on Tuesday evening at the GCAA Awards Banquet following the first round of the NCAA Division III Championships in Nicholasville, Kentucky.

Wrenn was also named a Srixon/Cleveland Golf Division III All-America Scholar by the GCAA, along with junior Austin Long. To be eligible for Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically and compete in at least two full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50-percent of his team's competitive rounds or compete in the NCAA Championships, have a stroke average under 79.0 in Division III and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.

Kong earned his way onto the All-Region team after a strong spring season, which featured individual medalist honors at both the West Cup and the SCIAC #2 Regular Season Championship. He was a big winner at both events, capturing The West Cup by seven strokes by closing out with a 68-69 over his final two rounds, which were two of the three rounds under 70 in the entire field. He also added a four-shot win at SCIAC #2, which was held at Industry Hills Golf Club, and finished in the top 10 (eighth) at the SCIAC Championships in April.

Wrenn has been a four-year member of the CMS line-up and has had a big impact nationally, tying for first place at the 2016 NCAA Championships before finishing as runner-up in a playoff, helping the Stags to their first-ever national title. He shot a 64 in the second round of the Embry Riddle Invitational in October and had three top-10 finishes in the spring, including both SCIAC regular season championships (fifth and eighth), and The West Cup (sixth).
