CMS Men's Golf Finishes Second at Embry-Riddle Invite with Three of Top Four Individuals

PRESCOTT, Ariz. - Freshman Alex Yun finished second with a three-round score of 211 (-2), while senior Alex Wrenn and freshman Rishi Bhat finished tied for third with a one-under 212 to lead the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's golf team to a second-place finish at the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Co-Ed Invitational on Tuesday at Antelope Hills North Golf Course.

Carter Lewis of Ottawa University (Arizona) shot a 4-under 209 to take the individual title, while helping his team take the team title with an even-par 852 over the three rounds. CMS was second at +7, 22 shots of Redlands which was in third with an 881. Arizona Christian (+40, 890), Benedictine (+54, 906), Embry-Riddle (+62, 914) and Whittier (+85, 937) rounded out the seven-team field. 

The Stags had three of the four players in the field who finished under par over the 54-hole tournament. After Wrenn shot a 64 in his second round on Monday, nobody in the entire field broke 70 in tougher conditions on Tuesday.

Yun, who shot a 67 in his second round on Monday, finished off his second-place effort with a 72 on Tuesday by shaking off a slow start and scoring birdies on three of the last four holes, capped off by a birdie on 18 to move him alone into second. 

Bhat tied for the low round in the field on Tuesday with a 70 (-1), while Wrenn followed up his career-best 64 with an even-par performance on Tuesday. After carding an even par through the first 16 holes, Bhat came up with one of two eagles for the Stags one the day by scoring a 3 on the par-5 17th. Freshman Jin Kim also had an eagle for CMS on the fifth hole on Tuesday on his way to a 76, while sophomore Josh Hunter, competing as an individual, capped off a solid tournament with his third straight round in the 70s, including an opening-round 76.

CMS concludes its fall schedule with its second-place finish in Prescott and will next be in action in February when it competes in the CSU San Bernardino Coyote Classic on Feb. 17-19 and then in the first SCIAC regular season tournament on Feb. 23-24.
