Second place finish for a young Stags team at Cal Cup Golf Tournament

HEMET, Calif. – Four freshmen and a junior earned second place for the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's golf team at the Cal Cup Tournament in Hemet earlier this week. The team finished at just three over par after three rounds at the Diamond Valley Golf Club.

Head coach Bim Jollymour was very proud of how his freshmen stepped up in their first collegiate tournament.

While the course might have played well in the mornings, the afternoon wind on both days made things more difficult for all participants.

Freshmen Joe LaHorgue had the low round for the Stags in the tournament at 66, six shots under the par of 72. Lahorgue finished second on the team behind the ever-steady junior Kethan Reddy. As the veteran in the tournament for CMS, Reddy shot 71, 70 and 74 to combine for 215.

Jonathan Shaw, another freshman, settled in after an opening round of 76 to shoot under par with a pair of 71s for the final two rounds. Tim de Silva had one round under par with scores of 74, 77 and 70 while Matt Shuman rounded out the team by shooting better with each subsequent round: 77, 74 and 73.

CS San Marcos ultimately won the tournament 19 shots ahead of CMS. "It was great to play with San Marcos because they are a good team," said Jollymour. "We'll see them again this weekend in Prescott."

CMS plays in their only other fall tournament this weekend in Prescott, AZ for the Embry-Riddle Invitational on Sept. 28-29.
