Men’s Golf Set For Return Trip To NCAA Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – For the second-consecutive season and seventh time overall, the No. 10 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's golf team is heading to the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championships. The NCAA Division III Men's Golf Committee announced Monday the teams and individuals selected to participate in the 2013 NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championships, and the Stags are one of four SCIAC teams to be selected, the others being La Verne, Cal Lutheran and Redlands. In 2012, the SCIAC also had four teams selected.

Overall 41 teams and 210 individual participants will make up the field at the 2013 NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championships May 14-17, at the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort, in Destin, Fla. The championships will be hosted by Methodist. Thirty conferences were awarded automatic qualification for the championships. Four teams were selected from Pool B, which consists of independent institutions, and institutions that are members of conferences that do not meet the requirements for automatic qualification. The final seven berths were reserved for Pool C, which are institutions from automatic-qualifying conferences that are not the conference champion and any remaining Pool B teams.

Of the 210 participants, the Stags are sending five golfers to Florida led by junior Bradley Shigezawa, currently the top-ranked golfer in Division III. Shigezawa won the SCIAC Championships and had four first place finishes in 2013, one of which was a tie. Also making the trip for CMS are junior Patrick Fujieki, junior Jordan Stein, sophomore Ben Ho and freshman Kethan Reddy, the 30th ranked golfer in Division III. Shigezawa is one of two SCIAC golfers to be ranked in the top-10 and there are four SCIAC golfers ranked in the top-30 with Shigezawa and Reddy being the two from CMS.
