Men’s Golf Finishes In Ninth Place At Season-Opening San Marcos Invite

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's golf team shot a combined score of 941 to finish in ninth place out of 16 teams at the season-opening, two-day, 54 hole Cal State San Marcos Invitational at Shadowridge Country Club on Feb. 4-5. Next up on the schedule for the Stags is the SCIAC #1 Tournament at Empire Lakes on Feb. 23-24.

Oklahoma City came away with the overall team win with a three-round score of 219 which was 3-over par, while UCLA's Jake Knapp came away with the individual win at 8-under par performance. Out of the four SCIAC teams in the 16-team field, CMS finished behind just Cal Lutheran and ahead of Occidental and Whittier.

The Stags were led by the play of junior Bradley Shigezawa who finished tied for 18th overall at 10-over for the tournament. In the second round on Monday, Shigezawa shot a team-best par 72. The junior excelled on par-3 holes as he finished 1-over for the tournament. He also had pars on 34 of 54 holes.

Junior Jordan Stein finished six shots behind Shigezawa with a three round score of 232 which placed him in a tie for 34th. Stein's best round came in the final round on Tuesday with a 4-over 76. Stein shot 1-under on par-5 holes.

The Stags had three other golfers in the tournament as junior Aron Larson (241) tied for 56th, freshman Patrick Fujieki (244) tied for 65th and sophomore Phillip North (255) finished in 79th.
